Anthropological Look at Youtube & Buggles Video

Michael Wesch's Lecture

This video did a really good job in making me think. It made me realize how much has changed throughout the world. Through culture, communication, and society. So many new creations which has gotten the world where it is today.

This video carries a broad spectrum of topics. Really doing a good job on informing us. Seeing how time has passed and the generational divide of our culture. Children these days know how to do a lot of things that our elders don't know how to do, and vise versa. But that is how learning and culture changes and grows.

Buggles Video

The Buggles formed in 1977 in the United Kingdom which was made up of Trevor Horn, Geoff Downes, and semi-silent partner Bruce Woolley. Woolley, Horn, and Downes produced Video Killed the Radio Star and first recorded by Woolleys band. The band increased the popularity of synth pop.

Video Killed the Radio Star was originally on the piano but transitioned to a more technological sounds to keep up with the music industry.

During this time of this song and The Buggles forming it was the golden age for the radio. Families sitting around the radio and listening to music in this time period was the way of life. The video represents having a good time and the ways of the life during that time. The music video was the first video on MTV.

Video Killed the Radio star 1979

I heard you on the wireless back in fifty two
Lying awake intent at tuning in on you
If I was young it didn't stop you coming through
Oh, a, oh
They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine on new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see
Oh, a, oh
I met your children
Oh a oh
What did you tell them?
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
Pictures came and broke your heart
Oh, a, a, a, oh
And now we meet in an abandoned studio (ohh)
We hear the playback and it seems so long ago
And you remember the jingles used to go (ahh)
Oh, a, oh
You were the first one
Oh, a, oh
You were the last one
Video killed the radio star
Video killed the radio star
In my mind and in my car
We can't rewind we've gone too far
Oh, a, a, a, oh
Oh, a, a, a, oh
